The Congress on Monday condemned former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's offensive remarks comparing the Hooda family to the Pandavas from the Mahabharat, accusing them of using wrestlers as pawns.

Singh, who was accused of sexual assault by several female wrestlers last year, has sparked widespread outrage for his comments. In a protest held at his residence in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda, Singh asked why wrestler Bajrang Punia participated in the Asian Games without trials and dismissed the protest in Delhi as a family demonstration led by Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda.

Pawan Khera, head of Congress's media and publicity department, criticized the BJP's failure to control Singh, raising concerns about women's safety in the country. Singh's controversial remarks come amid the Congress fielding Phogat for the Haryana Assembly polls, following a bitter rivalry with Hooda since 2012 over the Wrestling Federation of India.
