The controversy surrounding IPS officer M R Ajith Kumar's alleged meeting with a senior RSS leader intensified on Saturday. Media reports suggested that the ADGP admitted to the Chief Minister's office that his visit was personal, prompting sharp reactions from ruling CPI (M) ally CPI and the opposition Congress.
Kumar, known to be a close confidant of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, reportedly explained to the CMO that he had met RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur last May for a personal visit. However, a source from the CMO indicated they lacked clear information about the ADGP's explanation.
Opposition Congress, which first raised allegations about the secret meeting, accused the top officer of acting as a 'messenger' for CM Vijayan. In contrast, CPI (M) maintained no need to react as the ADGP is not a party member. The BJP wondered what was wrong with the meeting, dismissing claims of disrupting Pooram festivities to influence election outcomes.
