Olympians Phogat and Punia Join Congress, Embrace Political Fight

Olympic wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, known for their protest against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, have joined the Congress party. Their entry into politics signifies their commitment to fighting injustices. While Phogat confirmed her candidacy for the Julana assembly segment, Punia's political role remains under discussion.

Olympic wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who were instrumental in the wrestlers' protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and ex-BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, officially entered politics on Friday by joining the Congress party. They pledged to remain fearless and steadfast in their new venture.

The Congress announced that Phogat would contest from the Julana assembly segment in the upcoming elections, although clarity on Punia's electoral role is yet to be provided. Shortly after joining, Punia was appointed as the working chairman of the All India Kisan Congress.

During a press conference, Phogat revealed she had resigned from Indian Railways due to personal reasons, while detailing the challenges she faced. Both wrestlers reiterated their dedication to justice, especially regarding women's issues. The Congress lauded their courage and welcomed their decision.
