In a significant political move, renowned wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia officially joined the Congress party on Friday, just ahead of the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
Meeting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence, the wrestlers later participated in a formal induction ceremony at the AICC headquarters, alongside notable party leaders including KC Venugopal and Uday Bhan.
Phogat, who faced a showcase notice from the Railways for meeting Rahul Gandhi, cited support from Congress during their protest against BJP's Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh as a major reason for their switch.
