Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban hailed his close relationship with Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni on Friday, describing her as his 'Christian sister,' and noted the increasing role of cultural identity in European politics.
Orban made these remarks at the TEHA economic forum in Cernobbio, northern Italy, emphasizing the shared cultural roots that now play a more significant role in politics. 'She is not just a colleague of mine; she is a Christian sister of mine,' Orban said.
Meloni, a national conservative and former member of a post-Fascist party, and Orban share views on tougher immigration policies and defending traditional family values against what they call the LGBT lobby. However, they differ on the issue of Ukraine, with Meloni supporting Kyiv and Orban being the most critical EU leader of the bloc's support for Ukraine.
