Congress-JKNC Alliance Key for J-K's Future, Says Shabir Ahmed Khan

Congress leader Shabir Ahmed Khan underscored the significance of the alliance between Congress and the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC). He called on the people of the valley to bolster this coalition, asserting that it would address all local issues. Khan emphasized that the outcome of the parliamentary elections, in which the BJP failed to secure a majority, reflected the public's decision.
The Congress and JKNC are jointly contesting the forthcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. As per their seat-sharing agreement, JKNC will vie for 51 out of 90 seats, while Congress will contest 32. Additionally, the two parties will face each other in five constituencies. One seat each has been allocated to CPI (M) and Panthers Party, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) extending its support to the alliance.
Elections in the Union Territory are set to occur in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8. Jammu and Kashmir have 90 assembly constituencies, including 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). Notably, this will be the first assembly poll since the abrogation of Article 370.
