Judge Accuses Trump's Lawyers of Election Evidence Suppression

A U.S. judge on Thursday accused lawyers for Donald Trump of attempting to prevent potentially damaging new evidence in the 2020 election subversion case against the Republican former president from becoming public before the Nov. 5 election.

"It strikes me that what you're trying to do is affect presentation of evidence in this case so as not to impinge on an election," U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan told Trump's lawyer John Lauro. Lauro contended that revealing evidence this close to the election would be "unfair" and could affect perceptions of Trump, who faces Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

Both sides presented their arguments on whether to disclose the evidence before the election or postpone until after. Trump's defense seeks to delay, arguing their immunity claim and suggesting that evidence presented to a grand jury violates previous Supreme Court rulings.
