Chief Adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, has asserted that the issue of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh is "exaggerated" and primarily political. During an interview with PTI, Yunus emphasized that India needs to abandon the narrative linking Bangladesh's stability solely to Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

Yunus indicated that the violence targeted not only Hindus but also supporters of the now-deposed Awami League regime, who faced significant backlash during the upheaval. He conveyed to New Delhi the importance of protecting Hindus and other minority communities while questioning the portrayal of these attacks as communal by Indian sources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern for the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh, emphasizing India's support for a stable and democratic nation. Yunus urged minorities in Bangladesh to assert their rights as equal citizens and criticized the politicization of minority issues in the media.
