Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP, launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a public rally in Sangli, Maharashtra, on Thursday. Gandhi accused the BJP of ensuring that only a select few reap all benefits.
Addressing the crowd, Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, demanding Modi apologize not just to Shivaji Maharaj but to every person in Maharashtra. 'I promise you that Kadam ji's statue will stand for 50-70 years, unlike Shivaji Maharaj's statue which fell days after its installation. This is an insult to Shivaji Maharaj,' he said.
Gandhi also accused BJP of spreading hatred across the nation, describing the ideological battle between BJP and Congress as an old one with roots in the teachings of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Phuleji, and Ambedkarji, whose ideologies align with Congress. During the event, Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled a statue of late Congress leader Patangrao Kadam. Gandhi reiterated Congress' commitment to implementing a caste census if elected.
