In a significant move, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by Chairperson Jagdambika Pal is working towards drafting a Waqf Amendment Bill to benefit the poor, children, women, and minorities. The JPC has called upon three key ministries, including Urban Development, Railways, and Transport, to participate in comprehensive discussions aimed at enhancing health and education sectors.

Addressing the media, Jagdambika Pal emphasized the importance of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across various states beyond Delhi. He mentioned, "Our goal is to bring forth a bill that ensures the Waqf's religious, pious, and charitable purpose positively impacts marginalized groups." Congress MP K Suresh highlighted substantial opposition from several Muslim organizations, demanding the bill's withdrawal and presenting their suggestions to the JPC Chairperson.

K Suresh elaborated on the objections, particularly from Kerala, noting that around 25 Muslim organizations, including Jamaat-e-Federation and Sunni groups, have voiced their concerns and presented a memorandum listing proposed amendments. The JPC, conducting a crucial meeting on Wednesday, has invited significant ministries to provide presentations. Shiv Sena leader Naresh Mhakse urged for peaceful dialogue rather than creating disruptions.

Notably, a previous JPC meeting on August 30 gathered representatives from multiple organizations like All India Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama, Indian Muslims for Civil Rights, and various Waqf boards, aiming for a collaborative approach to the amendment bill. The committee's inclusive and consultative method reflects its commitment to addressing diverse viewpoints and ensuring the bill's broad-based support.
