Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh's interim government, has described former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's political comments from India as an "unfriendly gesture" and insists she must remain silent to prevent discomfort between the two countries until Bangladesh requests her extradition.
During an interview with PTI in Dhaka, Yunus underscored that while Bangladesh is keen on maintaining strong ties with India, New Delhi should move beyond the narrative that only Sheikh Hasina can ensure the nation's stability. He remarked that Hasina's vocal presence in India complicates the situation and called for her return to Bangladesh for trial.
Recent incidents of violence and vandalism against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh have prompted India to express concern. Amidst this turbulence, Yunus stressed the need for both nations to work together to rebuild and stabilize their relations. He hinted at reviewing certain bilateral treaties, such as the Adani electricity deal, to ease Bangladesh's burdens.
