Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to the rules for next week's debate with former President Donald Trump, despite her campaign's concerns that the decision to mute microphones will work to her disadvantage.
The rules, set forth by ABC News, seemed to conclude the controversy over microphone muting that threatened to derail the Sept. 10 debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
Harris' campaign had previously advocated for keeping microphones live throughout to allow substantive exchanges. However, they accepted the conditions, suspecting Trump's campaign insisted on muted microphones to avoid direct exchanges. In an effort to ensure the debate proceeds, Harris' team agreed to the full set of rules proposed by ABC, including muted microphones.
