Lavrov Warns U.S. Against Provoking Russia with Long-Range Missiles
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the U.S. not to joke about Russia's ‘red lines’ amid potential plans to deliver long-range missiles to Ukraine. Lavrov emphasized the danger of losing mutual deterrence that has maintained balance since the Cold War, amid escalating tensions and increased Western aid to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has issued a stark warning to the United States regarding its potential delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine, cautioning Washington not to undermine Russia's 'red lines.'
Lavrov's comments come in response to reports that the U.S. is nearing an agreement to supply Ukraine with long-range JASSM cruise missiles, which could target areas deep within Russia. He stressed that this move disrupts the mutual deterrence that has been essential for stability between Moscow and Washington since the Cold War.
Lavrov also highlighted concerns over increasing Western military aid to Ukraine, including tanks, advanced missiles, and F-16 fighter jets. Despite warnings from Russia, and concerns about escalating the conflict, Lavrov pointed out that some Western politicians believe Putin's nuclear threats are mere bluffs and advocate for more robust support for Ukraine.
