Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Socialist) or NCP (SP), has urged Maharashtra to adopt a bill similar to West Bengal's law that seeks capital punishment for rape convicts.

Pawar also criticized Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis over his statement regarding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's actions in Surat, stating that presenting inaccurate historical facts was irresponsible.

Pawar pushed for the implementation of stringent anti-crime laws like the pending Shakti Criminal Laws Bill and called for the MVA alliance to begin its election preparations soon, including seat-sharing talks and a robust campaign plan.
