India and Brunei Forge Enhanced Partnership: Modi's Historic Visit
India and Brunei have elevated their bilateral ties to 'Enhanced Partnership' following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit to Brunei. Modi and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah discussed various areas including defence, trade, and energy. This visit marks a significant milestone in the 40-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
India and Brunei on Wednesday elevated their bilateral ties to an 'Enhanced Partnership' following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The discussions encompassed defence, trade, energy, and other key areas, while also addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official visit to Brunei, was greeted by Sultan Bolkiah and his family at the Istana Nurul Iman, the official residence and government seat. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) lauded the productive discussions and the elevation of bilateral ties.
Modi emphasized Brunei's significance in India's 'Act East' Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision, predicting that the strengthened ties will provide strategic direction to their relationship. His visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of Brunei's independence and the bilateral relations between the two countries.
