Uganda's main opposition leader, Bobi Wine, was shot in the leg and seriously injured by security agents in a northern suburb of Kampala on Tuesday, as confirmed by his political party.
Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has recently risen as a formidable opponent to President Yoweri Museveni, who has governed Uganda for nearly four decades. "Security operatives have made an attempt on the life of President @HEBobiwine. He was shot in the leg and seriously injured," declared the National Unity Platform (NUP) in a post on the X platform.
Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
