The missiles hit the Poltava Military Institute of Communications, partially destroying the building. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that people were trapped under the rubble but many were rescued. He has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Poltava Gov. Filip Pronin declared three days of mourning and called the attack a great tragedy for the region and Ukraine. The strike happened amid intensified military activities on both sides, with Ukrainian forces making advances in the Kursk region and Russian forces deepening their incursion into eastern Ukraine.
