BJP nominee Rajib Bhattacharjee claimed victory in the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Tripura by a margin of 37 votes on Tuesday. Bhattacharjee, currently serving as BJP's state unit president, garnered support from 47 MLAs, whereas his opponent, CPI(M) candidate Sudhan Das, received only 10 votes. The Congress party, which occupies three seats in the 60-member assembly, abstained from the vote.

Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul confirmed Bhattacharjee's triumph, attributing it to the unanimous backing from the ruling alliance's legislators. In his post-victory address, Bhattacharjee expressed his gratitude to the MLAs who voted for him and extended special thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP's national president for their confidence in his leadership.

In his new role as a Rajya Sabha member, Bhattacharjee has committed to prioritizing the development of Tripura and its people. Although he faced a setback in last year's assembly elections, Bhattacharjee's recent win marks a significant political achievement.
