Former Hurriyat member Syed Salim Geelani has joined the Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP), advocating for dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue. Geelani highlighted the PDP's commitment to democratic rights, human rights, and finding solutions through discussion.

On Sunday, several leaders and workers joined the PDP at its headquarters in Srinagar, in the presence of party chief Mehbooba Mufti. Mufti emphasized the party's agenda of reconciliation and dialogue with Hurriyat leaders, stating that they are not 'untouchables' and expressing openness to dialogue if Hurriyat wants to be 'part of the process.'

Mufti also criticized National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, accusing him of political convenience regarding elections. The upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, set for three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370.
