The attack occurred along a roadway, with the assailants managing to escape. One of the officers killed was 61-year-old Roni Shakuri from Sderot, whose own daughter was also a casualty in a prior Hamas battle. A militant faction cited responsibility for the assault, receiving praise from Hamas.

In a subsequent operation, Israeli forces targeted a residence in Hebron believed to be the hiding spot of one of the attackers, killing a militant. The West Bank has experienced heightened violence post the October 7 Gaza attacks, leading to numerous Palestinian and Israeli casualties.
