Union Minister and BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged molestation of a nurse in Birbhum, accusing her of administration and police system failures. Majumdar asserted that Banerjee has no moral right to remain in office and that her resignation would benefit Bengal.

The administration has completely failed and the police system here has completely broken down. If anyone is responsible for all this, it is Mamata Banerjee, so she has no moral right to remain in her post. It would be good for Bengal if Mamata Banerjee leaves her post," Majumdar told ANI. Reportedly, a nurse at a government hospital in Birbhum district, West Bengal, was allegedly molested and verbally abused by a male patient.

On Sunday, another molestation case surfaced from the Howrah Government Hospital involving a minor girl, said Superintendent of HGH Narayan Chattopadhyay. An FIR was registered at Howrah Police Station with subsequent arrest of the accused. State BJP Secretary Umesh Rai stated the incident happened when the victim was undergoing a CT scan.

These incidents follow the recent rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, found dead on August 9. Protests by doctors demanding justice and better security laws for healthcare professionals have emerged in various states.

The BJP has demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation, escalating political tensions. The Calcutta High Court has transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, has been arrested in relation to the incident. (ANI)
