Accusing the opposition of exploiting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse for political gain, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday initiated a counter demonstration against the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Maharashtra BJP leader Prasad Lad claimed the opposition is trying to spin the narrative ahead of the Assembly elections.

Large numbers of BJP supporters assembled in Mumbai's Dadar area, holding posters, chanting slogans, and organizing cultural performances in honor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. 'We are showing our love and respect for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and countering the narrative being pushed by Maha Vikas Aghadi,' Lad stated. Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry announced a joint technical committee to investigate the statue's damage, involving the Indian Navy, Maharashtra Government representatives, and technical experts.

The statue was revealed on December 4 last year during Navy Day celebrations in Sindhudurg, commemorating the Maratha Navy and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's role in maritime defense and security. The project was coordinated by the Indian Navy and funded by the state government.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackery criticized the BJP-led Mahayuti government for the incident. 'There is no excuse for this mistake,' said Thackery, emphasizing the statue's importance. He also called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging corruption and lack of accountability.
