Janata Dal (United) spokesperson K C Tyagi, whose stances frequently underscored differences with the BJP, has stepped down from his role, the regional party announced on Sunday.

In a statement, JD(U) confirmed that party President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has named Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson.

Tyagi, citing personal reasons in his resignation letter to Kumar, acknowledged his inability to fulfill his duties as spokesperson due to other commitments. He added that he had previously requested to be relieved from his duties.

Despite the resignation, Tyagi will retain his position as a political advisor within the party. Known for his high-profile presence and frequent comments on several national issues, Tyagi's opinions sometimes conflicted with BJP policies, causing tensions within JD(U).

His remarks on matters such as the Uniform Civil Code, Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and Palestine issue often contrasted with BJP's stance, raising eyebrows within the alliance. JD(U)'s statement also noted Tyagi's participation in an August 23 meeting critical of Israel's actions in Palestine, a session that included members from opposition parties.

Sources within JD(U) revealed that some senior leaders, including Union minister Lalan Singh and parliamentary party leader Sanjay Jha, preferred less public commentary from Tyagi to preserve better ties with BJP. His resignation follows BJP's ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and unity within the National Democratic Alliance.
