Former Jannayak Janta Party leaders Anoop Dhanak, Ram Kumar Gautam, and Jogi Ram Sihag, who recently quit the party, have joined the BJP, providing a critical boost to the ruling party in Haryana ahead of the October 5 Assembly elections.
The three leaders, along with Ambala Mayor Shakti Rani Sharma, were formally inducted into the BJP by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the party's state unit chief Mohan Lal Badoli, and Haryana affairs co-incharge Biplab Kumar Deb during a rally in Jind. Sharma is the spouse of Haryana Janchetna Party chief and former Union Minister Venod Sharma. Her son, Independent Rajya Sabha member Kartikeya Sharma, also attended the event.
Previously, Dhanak was an MLA from Uklana, Gautam from Narnaund, and Sihag from Barwala. Their move to BJP comes after extending support to BJP leader Kiran Choudhry's unopposed Rajya Sabha bid. Ram Niwas Surjakhera, who was also expected to join the BJP, did not attend the event following rape charges he termed as political conspiracies.
