Assam Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Ripun Bora resigned on Sunday, citing the party's perceived regional affiliation with West Bengal as a stumbling block to its acceptance in Assam.
In a letter to TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Bora claimed that his proposals to make TMC more acceptable in Assam went unheeded. Despite numerous interactions with the public over his two-year tenure, the party couldn't shake off its regional image.
Bora, a former Rajya Sabha member and state Congress president, had suggested promoting Assamese leaders and cultural heritage sites to strengthen the party's local appeal. However, these ideas were not implemented, leading to his decision to resign.
