Chidimma Adetshina has been officially crowned Miss Universe Nigeria following a contentious attempt to compete in Miss South Africa last month. The 23-year-old, whose father is Nigerian and mother is South African, found herself at the center of a national controversy over her participation in the South African pageant due to her heritage. She subsequently withdrew from the competition.

Adetshina, in her acceptance speech, emphasized the significance of her new title, stating, "I just want everyone to know that this crown is not just a crown of beauty, it is going to unite us as one. I am really proud and grateful that I am going to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe, and I know we are going to win." She highlighted the xenophobia faced by Nigerians in South Africa, which has at times erupted into violent attacks on Nigerian businesses.

Adetshina is set to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November, with hopes of bringing unity and pride to her homeland.
