Britain's Labour Party has announced an ambitious legislative agenda set to introduce a range of laws aimed at enhancing employees' rights and protecting renters. Among the new measures is the Employment Rights Bill, which plans to abolish zero-hour contracts and ban fire and rehire practices.

The Renters' Rights Bill will focus on removing the threat of arbitrary evictions and ensuring landlords cannot discriminate against families with children. With parliament resuming from its summer recess, legislative efforts to rebalance power from employers to workers and allow tenants to challenge unjust rent hikes are a priority.

Additional legislation includes a move to gradually re-nationalise the passenger rail network and a new British Energy Bill to invest in green technologies. The Labour government also aims to impose stricter rules on second jobs for lawmakers and hold water company executives personally liable for legal breaches concerning sewage regulations.
