Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir polls, the transgender community held a rally on Saturday demanding reservation in the legislative assembly.

The rally, starting from Vikram Chowk and concluding at Hari Singh Park, featured participants carrying placards and shouting slogans supporting their cause.

Raveena Mahant, leading the rally, emphasized the lack of reserved seats in the assembly for the transgender community, advocating for at least one seat each in Jammu and Kashmir divisions to address their issues.

Mahant stated that the rally was a call for representation and reservation, long denied by political parties in the region.

She stressed that without reservation, the community remains under-represented and unable to influence decisions impacting them directly.

Mahant vowed that the transgender community would continue their advocacy and urged the government and political parties to prioritize these issues.

Another participant criticized the political parties and governments for merely paying lip service to democracy while failing to provide job reservations or separate washrooms in educational institutions for them.

She articulated the community's resolve to raise their voice for LGBT rights and call on the government to listen to their demands.
