The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has vehemently criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for seeking President's rule in Delhi, accusing the BJP of attempting to undermine democratic processes in the national capital. In a statement released on Friday, the AAP alleged that the BJP's request for the dismissal of the Delhi government is a clear indication of conceding defeat in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.
Earlier, a delegation led by Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta approached President Droupadi Murmu, urging immediate intervention in what they described as a constitutional crisis in Delhi. The AAP's statement accused the BJP of disregarding the Constitution and consistently attacking it.
"Whenever the BJP can't win elections, it tries to run a parallel government solely to disrupt the elected state government's functioning. Be it Punjab, Kerala, or Tamil Nadu, BJP-appointed governors have indefinitely stalled budgets and bills. The BJP has zero regard for the constitution and democracy," stated the AAP. They further accused the BJP of hurrying to impose President's rule in Delhi because of their inability to win elections, claiming Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's efforts are well recognized by Delhi's people.
The AAP also denounced the BJP's failed "Operation Lotus," which aimed to buy legislators to sway election results, and the subsequent attempts to defame AAP leaders. "The BJP knows it cannot win elections in Delhi. Their notorious 'Operation Lotus,' a shameless attempt to buy legislators, has miserably failed. Their strategy to steal votes has failed against AAP," the statement declared.
The AAP went on to accuse the BJP of incarcerating top AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other notable figures, in a desperate bid for power. The party also criticized Delhi Lieutenant Governor LG Saxena for allegedly obstructing government work and undermining the federal structure, calling for his dismissal due to his negative politics despite his constitutional role.
"The LG of Delhi has been a total failure, doing nothing beyond hindering the people's work and consistently undermining the federal structure as outlined in the Constitution. We urge the President to dismiss this LG, who engages in negative politics while holding a constitutional office," the statement concluded.
