Opposition leaders criticized Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday for his handling of the situation in the northeastern state, urging his resignation due to his purported failure to protect the lives and livelihoods of residents.

In response to Singh's interview with PTI, where he denied any reason to resign, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Annie Raja asserted that Singh no longer holds the moral authority to remain in his position.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Manoj Jha emphasized the severity of the situation, citing recent visuals from Manipur and questioning Singh's moral compass. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sagarika Ghose also censured Singh, drawing comparisons to West Bengal's handling of a similar crisis, and lamenting the continued suffering of Manipur's citizens. Despite Singh's assurances to restore peace with the Centre's help, opposition leaders remain unconvinced, pointing to ongoing ethnic violence and unaddressed grievances.
