The recent outrage over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has led to nationwide protests. Harbhajan Singh, former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP of the Aam Aadmi Party, emphasized the importance of taking the issue seriously. He called for stringent laws to prevent such crimes from recurring.
Singh highlighted the crucial issue of women's safety and announced that the subject would be raised in Parliament. He stated that passing a law would deter potential criminals and ensure that India is safe for women. Singh stressed the need for collective action rather than politicizing the incident.
President Droupadi Murmu, in an open letter titled 'Women's Safety: Enough is Enough,' expressed her horror and urged for societal introspection. She condemned the recent crimes against women as part of a broader pattern and called for a reevaluation of societal attitudes towards women. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has continued its probe, carrying out polygraph tests on key individuals and suspects in connection with the case.
