Union Minister and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday met West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, discussing the ongoing crisis in the state following the rape-murder of a trainee postgraduate doctor at R G Kar Hospital on August 9.

During the meeting, former state party president Dilip Ghosh and other BJP leaders were present. Majumdar urged the Governor to take decisive action to mitigate the turmoil, saying, "We have requested the Governor to protect the rights of people in Bengal and take necessary measures to lift the state out of this dire situation."

Majumdar criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly inciting unrest through her statements, amid ongoing protests demanding justice for the victim. He argued that Banerjee has failed in her role as head of a state government within a federal structure. Several BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, have called for Banerjee's resignation, accusing her of failing to prevent the crime and attempting to cover up evidence. They suggested the imposition of Article 356 for central intervention.

After the meeting, BJP leaders participated in a sit-in protest at Y Channel in Esplanade, demanding Banerjee's resignation. In response, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh criticized the visit, questioning the Governor's legitimacy amid his own controversies and urging for a thorough investigation into the hospital incident.
