West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday firmly denied allegations that she had threatened junior doctors at state-run hospitals, who have been on strike for 21 days protesting the alleged rape and murder of a woman medic.
Banerjee dismissed the accusations as 'completely false' and part of a “malicious disinformation campaign” against her. “I have not uttered a single word against the medical students or their movements. I totally support their movement. Their movement is genuine. I never threatened them, as some people are accusing me of doing,” she clarified on social media.
Addressing a rally, Banerjee urged the agitating junior doctors to consider returning to work and stated she did not want to lodge FIRs against them considering their future. However, the doctors saw this as a “veiled threat” and rejected her appeal. Banerjee also criticized the BJP, accusing them of creating anarchy in the state with the support of the central government.
