Democrat Kamala Harris leads Republican Donald Trump 45% to 41% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll published Thursday, showing a surge in voter enthusiasm for the vice president as the November 5 election approaches.

Harris's 4 percentage point lead is an increase from a 1-point lead in late July, with significant gains among women and Hispanic voters. The poll, conducted over eight days ending Wednesday, has a 2 percentage point margin of error, and shows Harris leading Trump by 13 percentage points among both women and Hispanic voters.

While Trump still holds the lead among white voters and men, his advantage among voters without a college degree has decreased. This poll highlights the significant changes in the presidential race this summer, following President Joe Biden's withdrawal on July 21. Harris has been gaining ground in national polls and crucial swing states, although Trump still leads in several key battleground states. Despite this, Republican strategist Matt Wolking says Trump's campaign must remain focused to avoid alienating potential supporters. Harris's rising popularity is echoed by increased enthusiasm among Democratic voters, with 73% expressing excitement about voting in November. A decisive issue remains abortion policy, where Harris holds a significant lead.
