A senior BNP leader has criticized an influential network of former diplomats, bureaucrats, politicians, and think tanks for distorting the reality of Indo-Bangla relations. According to Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, this 'ecosystem' has misled the Indian establishment into falsely believing that relations would soured without Sheikh Hasina's BNP in power.
Following India's comments on the safety of Bangladesh's minorities, Chowdhury labeled the issue as an 'internal matter', while reiterating Bangladesh's desire for strong relations with its neighboring India. He accused India of failing to grasp the sentiments of the Bangladeshi populace by backing one political faction and its leaders.
In an interview with PTI, Chowdhury stated that the purported threat to India if the Awami League wanes is a deliberate fabrication. He insisted that Bangladesh is a liberal nation where different communities coexist peacefully. Additionally, Chowdhury called for a reassessment of various bilateral treaties and agreements to ensure they serve Bangladesh's best interests, indicating a potential shift in foreign policy if the BNP comes to power.
