On Wednesday, Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, and Nana Patole extended their support to agitating village sarpanchs in Maharashtra.
The sarpanchs are demanding a minimum monthly wage of Rs 15,000, pension benefits, and greater powers for elected gram panchayats to undertake developmental projects. Speaking at Azad Maidan, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar emphasized that sarpanchs, with their grassroots-level engagement, have a better understanding of local challenges and should therefore be empowered.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Thackeray criticized the current Maharashtra government, accusing it of prioritizing contractors over public issues, and vowed that the MVA would resolve the sarpanchs' concerns if they win the forthcoming assembly election.
