Junaid Azim Mattu, the former mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, announced his resignation from the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Wednesday. He shared his decision on a post on X, expressing gratitude towards party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari and his colleagues.
Mattu, who has shifted political allegiances multiple times in the past decade, first joined the People's Conference in 2009, then moved to the National Conference in 2013, and finally aligned with the Apni Party in 2020 after a brief return to the People's Conference. Despite his political journey, he did not reveal his future plans.
He conveyed that his principles no longer matched the party's ideology, making his continued association disingenuous. Mattu further stated that the Apni Party is now free to choose a new candidate from Zadibal in his stead.
