In a move that has sent shockwaves through Jharkhand's political landscape, former Chief Minister Champai Soren announced on Wednesday his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The senior tribal leader stated that his decision was driven by the interests of Jharkhand, particularly to address critical issues like rampant infiltration and the preservation of tribal identity.
Soren, who met Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the week, arrived in Ranchi on Wednesday to a warm welcome from his supporters. He declared that he would resign from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and his ministerial position. Addressing allegations of being under surveillance, Soren said he was unfazed by such reports.
The former CM's shift to BJP comes amidst claims of infiltration in Jharkhand's Santhal Pargana region and what he described as the lack of serious attention to tribal issues by other political parties. Soren emphasized the need for strong action to safeguard the social and economic welfare of the region's indigenous population.
