AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam has launched a verbal attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his controversial 'Miya' remarks made during a state assembly session. Islam accused the Chief Minister of showing bias towards one community while neglecting another.

The opposition Congress and AIUDF initiated an adjournment motion in the Assam Assembly on Tuesday to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation. This follows a reported 14-year-old girl's gang rape in the Dhing area of Nagaon district and a recent incident in Upper Assam.

'It is the Chief Minister's responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the 3.4 crore people of Assam. Unfortunately, the CM has shown favoritism towards one community in his response,' stated Islam. Reacting to the criticism, CM Sarma vehemently defended his stance, declaring, 'I won't let Assam become a land of Miyas.'

Sarma urged the Miya-Muslim community not to settle in the indigenous Assamese areas forcefully, citing potential societal and security issues. 'I am not against Islam,' he clarified, 'but if Hindus' land is being seized and girls are being abused, I will not stay silent.'

Meanwhile, AIUDF's Mujibur Rahman affirmed that his party will persist in advocating for the rights of the Miya Muslim population. The recent gang rape incident drew attention to rising tensions. According to police reports, a minor girl was found in a semi-conscious state by locals after being attacked while returning from tuition. Two arrests have been made in connection with the crime.
