Union minister and BJP nominee George Kurian has been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh by the returning officer.
The BJP had announced Kurian's candidacy on August 20 for the Rajya Sabha seat made vacant by Jyotiraditya Scindia's election to the Lok Sabha in June.
Other nominations were filed, including state BJP vice-president Kantdev Singh, who submitted as a dummy candidate. After one candidate's papers were rejected and Singh withdrew, Kurian was elected unopposed for the remaining term lasting till 2026.
