France's Leftist Parties Abort Talks with Macron Amid Political Turmoil

France's Socialists and Greens will not continue discussions with President Emmanuel Macron to resolve the political deadlock. They call for peaceful protests, criticizing Macron's refusal to consider a leftist government. Parliamentary deadlock remains, as no coalition is formed between leftists, centrists, and far-right parties.

France's Socialists and Greens declared on Tuesday that they will not engage in further discussions with President Emmanuel Macron aimed at resolving the ongoing political deadlock. Instead, their leaders called on supporters to hold peaceful protests.

On Monday, Macron rejected the idea of a leftist government, asserting it would be voted out by a majority of lawmakers from other factions. He resumed talks with party leaders on Tuesday; however, with a hung parliament where the centrist bloc, left, and far-right are nearly equal, no coalition has formed, leaving Macron at a standstill.

"This election is being stolen from us," stated Green party leader Marine Tondelier on local radio. Criticizing Macron's approach, she said, "He's not trying to find a solution, just obstructing progress." Socialist Party president Olivier Faure echoed these sentiments on France 2 television, decrying the negotiations as a "parody of democracy." Meanwhile, the hard-left LFI party called for a mass protest against Macron on September 7.

NFP leaders maintain that France's next prime minister should come from their ranks, a demand Macron has thus far ignored. Macron, a pro-business centrist, believes the balance of power aligns more closely with the centre or centre-right factions.
