The Congress criticized Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday for his remarks on the delayed national census, stating that his comments lacked the necessary clarity.
The criticism followed Shah's statement that the decadal census would be conducted at an appropriate time, and an announcement would be made accordingly.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh sarcastically called Shah's announcement a 'bombshell,' noting that the census has already been delayed for over three years.
The census, initially scheduled from April 1 to September 30, 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amit Shah reiterated that the census would take place at a suitable time without specifying a new timeline.
Opposition parties have demanded a caste census, but the government has yet to make any announcement on this issue.
