In a strong advocacy for a nationwide caste census, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday stated that 90 percent of India's population remains sidelined from the system—a situation he believes can be rectified through such a census.
Speaking at the 'Samvidhan Samman Sammelan,' Gandhi pointed out the disparity, noting that those excluded possess skills and knowledge but lack connections within the current framework. This, he argued, underscores the necessity for a caste census.
Gandhi further declared that for the Congress party, the caste census serves as the cornerstone for effective policy-making, aiming to ensure inclusivity and representation across societal structures.
