Republican States Sue Biden Over Immigrant Citizenship Program
Texas and Republican-led states filed a lawsuit against President Biden's new citizenship program for immigrants illegally married to U.S. citizens. The program aims to keep families together but is seen as overreaching by the states. The lawsuit also involves America First Legal and has stirred political tensions ahead of the presidential election.
Texas and a coalition of Republican-led states have launched a legal challenge against President Joe Biden's new initiative, accusing the administration of overstepping its bounds with a program that offers a path to citizenship for immigrants married to U.S. citizens.
Dubbed Keeping Families Together, the initiative could benefit approximately 500,000 immigrant spouses who have resided in the country for at least 10 years. Without this program, many would have to leave the U.S. to re-enter legally.
America First Legal, led by Trump adviser Stephen Miller, is co-counsel in the lawsuit. Miller has condemned the program as 'brazenly unlawful.' Meanwhile, a White House spokesperson labeled the Texas lawsuit as an attempt to separate families, contrary to national values.
