Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin on Thursday alleged that Uttarakhand fell short of the national average in terms of the number of days the assembly sessions were held annually.

During a discussion on the admissibility of a motion regarding the House's business conduct, Nizamuddin pointed out that the Uttarakhand Assembly's yearly performance was significantly below the national average.

Referencing a report, he noted that between 2017 and 2023, the national average of session days was 22, while Uttarakhand's was just 12. Specifically, the Uttarakhand Assembly had only eight days of sessions in 2022, ten in 2023, and four days so far this year. Ideally, he stated, the state should conduct three assembly sessions totaling 60 days annually.

Nizamuddin also addressed the issue of Monday being designated for questions related to departments overseen by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, highlighting that over the past three years, the Question Hour hadn't been held on Mondays.

A three-time MLA, Nizamuddin was elected from Manglaur in a recent bypoll.
