Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of growing trade relations as Moscow increasingly relies on Beijing for political and economic backing.
At the Kremlin meeting, Putin praised the successful development of trade relations and noted the attention both governments are paying to economic ties. According to Li, Chinese-Russian relations are at an unprecedentedly high level. Earlier, Li met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The meeting coincided with Russia's ongoing struggle against a Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region and a major drone attack on Moscow. There was no indication that Ukraine was discussed during their talks.
Despite China positioning itself as neutral in the Ukraine conflict, it shares high animosity toward the West with Russia. With Western sanctions on Russian oil, China has ramped up its oil purchases, extending its influence. A U.S. intelligence assessment highlighted China's increased sales of technology crucial for Russia's military production.
