Pro-Palestinian Delegates Challenge Dems Over Gaza Conflict
Muslim delegates and allies, under 'Delegates Against Genocide', seek changes in the Democratic platform regarding U.S. arms support to Israel. They plan protests and disruptions during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, aiming to push for an arms embargo and increased Palestinian representation in policy decisions.
Dozens of Muslim delegates and their allies are calling for changes to the Democratic platform in response to the U.S. support for Israel's offensive in Gaza. Operating under the banner 'Delegates Against Genocide,' the group plans to press for an arms embargo during the party's national convention in Chicago.
The group has urged supporters to wear Palestinian keffiyehs and carry Palestinian flags during the four-day event. Their goal is to influence the party platform and encourage delegates to speak on the convention floor. President Joe Biden is scheduled to address the convention on Monday, while Kamala Harris will speak on Thursday.
Despite their small numbers, the delegates aim to make significant noise and push for language in the platform that enforces laws against providing military aid to those committing gross human rights violations. The group fears their opposition could disrupt the convention, but organizers remain committed to voicing their concerns.
