Gaza War Crisis: 40,000 Palestinians Dead Amidst Ceasefire Efforts
The Gaza-Israel conflict has resulted in over 40,000 Palestinian deaths and 92,401 injuries, with 85% of Gaza's population displaced. The chaos hampers accurate death tolls, which may be higher. International mediators push for a ceasefire as the war, now in its 11th month, devastates families, infrastructure, and basic services.
The Gaza-Israel conflict has claimed over 40,000 Palestinian lives, the Gaza Health Ministry reported Thursday. The fighting has also left 92,401 wounded and forced 85% of Gaza's residents from their homes, according to the ministry.
The conflict, now surpassing its 11th month, began on October 7 with a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, killing about 1,200 Israelis and capturing around 250 as hostages. Israel asserts that 111 hostages, including 15 women and two young children, remain. The chaotic conditions make it difficult to accurately count the dead, health officials said.
Amid pleas from international mediators for a ceasefire, the war has wrought severe humanitarian crises in Gaza. The risk of famine looms, with over 495,000 people facing the most severe hunger. Moreover, Gaza's sanitation systems have collapsed, compounding the catastrophe with poor living conditions for the displaced populations.
