Maldivian Democratic Party Welcomes India's Recalibration Under President Muizzu

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has welcomed the new policy of engaging India, spearheaded by President Mohammad Muizzu's administration, terming it a 'sudden recalibration.' The MDP emphasized that India has always been the Maldives' first responder in times of crisis.

President of MDP, Abdulla Shahid, made the remarks after meeting with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Shahid called on the Muizzu government to publicly apologize for past actions and statements that damaged the Maldives' foreign and economic outlook.

Jaishankar's visit is aimed at resetting bilateral relations, the first high-level interaction since Muizzu's pro-China administration began. In his statements, Shahid affirmed that the recalibration should be meaningful and in the best interests of the Maldivian people, while welcoming multiple development agreements between the two nations.
