Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday inaugurated the memorial of former Governor B Rachaiah, emphasizing the latter's unwavering support for the oppressed. Siddaramaiah highlighted that Rachaiah was a distinguished politician known for his actions rather than words.
Rachaiah, who was a significant influence in Ramakrishna Hegde's ministerial circle, contributed to nurturing politicians focused on community welfare. Siddaramaiah credited Rachaiah and Hegde for his rise in politics, noting that they appointed him president of the Kannada Kavalu Samiti, and later, a minister.
'If I had not become a minister then, I would not have become Chief Minister for the second time today,' Siddaramaiah remarked. He celebrated the Constitution crafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, stating that current legislators owe their positions to it. Rachaiah's adherence to constitutional principles makes him a role model for today's youth, he added.
The memorial, located in Aluru village, was constructed by the Chamarajanagar District Administration and Social Welfare Department. The event saw the presence of key figures, including MLA C. Puttarangshetty, Chamarajanagar District In-charge Minister K. Venkatesh, Social Welfare Minister H. C. Mahadevappa, Law Minister H. K. Patil, Rachaiah's wife Gouramma, and other local leaders.
